Mentoring and training the future neuroscientists is a top priority of the Ip Lab.
Positions available in Prof. Nancy Ip’s lab at HKUST:
Postdoctoral fellows
The lab is interested in recruiting ambitious and highly motivated postdoctoral research associates
to study neural development and synaptic plasticity. Candidates should send their CV with 3 referees to iplab@ust.hk.
Graduate students
If you are currently 3rd year undergraduate students and are looking for a graduate student position in the Ip Lab,
you will need to apply to HKUST. Candidates should send their CV with your prior experience, any relevant coursework and
research interests to iplab@ust.hk.
Undergraduate students
If you are currently a HKUST student looking for research experience, please email me (iplab@ust.hk) with your prior
experience, any relevant coursework, a rough estimate of how much time you plan to spend in lab.
Research assistants
1. Proteomic Analysis
We are seeking dynamic and highly motivated researchers to join our team at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to investigate the biomarkers and pathological mechanisms underlying age-related neurodegenerative diseases.
The successful candidate(s) will study the proteomic profiling in neurodegenerative diseases. He/she will receive systematic training on proteomic analysis, including the handling of human samples, performing proteomic experiments and analyzing the proteomic data generated. The position also provides exchange opportunities, and the successful candidate(s) will work closely with renowned laboratories at international institutions.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s or above in life science or other related subjects.
• Background in neuroscience, clinical studies or other proteomics-related fields.
• Knowledge of neuro-pathology, genomic DNA, RNA, proteins or hands-on biological research experience is preferred.
• Outstanding communication skills, strong passion and commitment to science, and enjoys working in a multidisciplinary and diverse team.
Duration of Appointment:
• 1 year, renewable
Please email us (iplab@ust.hk) with the duration and intensity of your previous lab experience, your laboratory skills in molecular biology and neuroscience (genotyping, cell culture, protein biochemistry, etc.), your career goals and employment timeline.
2. Electronic system management
We are seeking dynamic and highly motivated researchers to join our team at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to work with the research team on managing and integrating the electronic lab notebook into the lab's daily operation.
The successful candidate will learn about the lab's operational dynamics and work closely with team members to set up and manage the electronic system. He/she will receive training on how to use the electronic lab notebook, perform routine management of the system and work with different research teams to maintain complete and accurate records of the experimental data and analyses.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s in life science, computer science, management or other related subjects.
• Background in neuroscience is a plus.
• Knowledge of biological research is preferred.
• Ability to follow written and verbal directions carefully and to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
• Outstanding communication skills, strong passion and commitment in science, and enjoys working in a multidisciplinary and diverse team.
Duration of Appointment:
• 1 year, renewable
Please email us (iplab@ust.hk) with the duration and intensity of your previous laboratory experience and skills (if any), career goals and employment timeline.
3. Drug screening
We are seeking dynamic and highly motivated researchers to join our team at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to investigate the biomarkers and pathological mechanisms underlying age-related neurodegenerative diseases.
We are looking for highly motivated Research Assistant(s) to join our Drug Discovery team. The candidate(s) will actively participate in and contribute to the research and development of novel strategies for drug discovery. The appointee will assist in the generation of reporter cell lines, Antisense Oligonucleotide (ASO) screening, and genome editing. Training will be provided as needed in laboratory techniques, which include cell culture, genome editing, establishment of reporter cell lines and immunoassays.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Biomedical Sciences or related fields.
• Experience in cell culture and molecular biology-related laboratory techniques is preferred.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, team-oriented, with the ability to work independently.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
